Saturday the 25th, we celebrated Connor's 7th Birthday. He chose a pirate theme this year and of course I went WAY overboard and went all out for him and his friends. I made his cake and decorated it with "Cake Tattoo's". If you haven't seen these, they are pretty cool. It's basically an image printed on rice paper that you peel off and put onto your cake! Instant decoration! Everyone had an eye patch to wear and they were encouraged to dress up as pirates as well. I also had sashes for the kids. I went to Hancock's Fabrics and found satin material on sale for like $2 bucks a yd and got 4yds. I cut them into 10" wide strips and viola! Instant Pirate Sash! I was amazed at all the kids that showed up wearing a Pirate costume of some sort!! It was TOO fun. We played MATEY bingo. I found a website that does customized bingo cards that you can print at home. Oh yeah, for FREE! The kids loved that. As first graders, they had fun finding the larger numbers. Cake and presents were over before we know it and Connor is treated to Olive Garden for Birthday Dinner.
Sunday gets here and BRRRR there's a nice fall chill in the air. Boys are playing outside with the neighbor kids at Mimi's house. Then we head to Weatherford for the Surprise birthday party with Nana and Papa and the rest of my family. Man oh man was he surprised! We made a 3D pirate ship cake that was cut from two 11x17 cakes. Mom, dad and Heidi all pitched in and made it the coolest cake ever! Chili dogs for lunch and the kids spent the rest of the day outside playing games with Ryan. 7:30pm rolls around and we finally head back East. Boys, of course, pass smooth out on the way home. We carry them to bed and assume they are out for the night. 20 minutes later I go check in on them and Connor is awake...
"Mom, I don't wanna go to sleep."
"Why Honey?"
"I don't want this weekend to end"
Mission accomplished. Way to go mom! ;)
